Retreat Into Yourself

  • Kumari of the Woods
It is common to feel exhausted in our lives from work, families, extended families, friends, and many other commitments from people asking for favors, explaining why they need us, begging for help. It is hard to ask for silence, down time, “me” time, and time away from the madness of life and its deadlines.

Expectations can feel like we are needed then they can feel like a burden.

This is when you need to retreat.

You need a retreat that will hold you in its forested canopy of trees and walking trails, daily yoga classes and afternoon meditation.

Or you can decide to curl up in a cottage or elevated camping site called Hideaways and write your novel, your memoir or let the poetry pour from you.  There is a place as unique as your heart and it is Kumari of the Woods.

It is located in a remote, end of the road destination in Strafford, Vermont.  Not total silence as our roosters, Ballsy and his son, Umbra, will awaken you each day and crow to their heart’s content throughout the day.  The flow of different birds will roam free so we are not promising a tick-free retreat but close to it.  We love these birds!

We are mapping out more gardens and planning the space for a Yoga Yurt for daily classes and other wellness programs at the mouth of the driveway as you enter.  Community residents are invited to pay for classes and programs, too, though retreat guests can attend regular classes for free.

In addition, by summer 2023 we hope to build an outdoor kitchen, open, airey, accessible and a place where you can gather for certain meals…or not.  No pressure.  You can design your time here with your needs in mind and not pay attention to our offerings. There are no expectations, remember?

Just taking a walk in the woods, stopping to sit on large rocks or sitting in Meditation Hollow will feel healing and restorative. There is a very special place where you can sit among huge boulders of aged stones and send your grief, your anxiety, your remorse forward over an expansive reserve.  Just let it go.  Feel liberated and free.

Some programs will be offered here on the land and some in the Yurt.  We are looking into the scheduling of professionals who can give wilderness walks, foraging, sound healing, chakra balancing and many forms of yoga and qigong. And much more…

Our Upper Valley, Vermont community is rich in talent and great character and locals will be nearby to guide you here or help you if you have any doubts that Vermont is the most beautiful piece of Heaven on Earth.

Take a look at the photos in this first newsletter as you can see what we are building here. It is not an Air BnB.  It is not a long-term lease arrangement.  It is not a spa or elegant resort.  We cannot compete with those places and we do not want to.

We are unique.

We are a Forested Retreat where you bring your full self, unburdened, untapped to unwind…let the trees speak to you and be one with the forest creatures who were here way before us.

We ask that you please spread the word to all your friends and family.  We are taking reservations for our opening in May 2023 and the first ones to reserve days will get special discounts. Please note: there will be building happening with the yurt and year-round Cottage 3, next summer so there will be some construction noise.  We hope you are so relaxed that you will not even hear it.

And one last favor:  we are actively seeking donors to contribute to the remaining build and/or an investor who holds the vision we do:

To bring an awareness of the living landscape of the forest, the honor of the indigenous people of the land where we sit, the tranquility and serenity of the magic surrounding us in the stillness and an appreciation of the foraging and life of conservation we all need to be mindful of for humanity to grow its consciousness and its unification within nature and to support the de-stressing in our lives.
